Jewelry Box

$200.00
sold out

I absolutely love crafting small pieces and spending more time on details that have you finding something new every time you look at it.

The box was primarily made with Rainbow Poplar along with Red Oak for dowels and Purple Heart for the corner joints. The side walls were made with one continuous board of Poplar cut at a 45 degree angle to match the grain movement. The top was my favorite part and the most challenging. After using a scroll saw to cut a curved line, a thin piece of Poplar was steamed and clamped between two curved boards. Once the thin piece held its shape, all three pieces were glued together. This process was repeated three times to have this entangled effect. Solid brass was used for hardware and accent pieces. To finish off a painted stone from Italy was used for the handle.

Two homemade mixers were used for the finish. The first three coats were a mixer of Polyurethane, Tung Oil and Turpentine. The last two coats were a mixer of Polyurethane, Wax and Turpentine buffed out.
